Sample: the 2026/27 school year

Daily share of schools on confirmed holiday in England, Scotland and Wales, September 2026 to August 2027
Share of schools on confirmed holiday each day, among the councils we cover. Scotland breaks up for summer weeks before England, and Scottish October holidays are spread over three weeks.

Summer 2027 reads low for now. Councils that haven't published their 2027/28 dates have no confirmed return date, and the signal only counts confirmed holidays. Each row shows how many councils are covered and how many are unknown.

  • Daily holiday share, 2026/27 (CSV): 1,460 rows, one per day for the UK, England, Scotland and Wales. Columns: date, weekday, area, share_on_holiday, weighting, holiday_weight, total_weight, councils_covered, councils_unknown.
  • Term dates for 12 councils (CSV): 2026/27 and 2027/28 terms, half terms and holidays for Birmingham, Kent, Hampshire, Leeds, Hackney, Devon, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highland, Gwynedd and Monmouthshire, each with its source URL, licence and verification time.

Generated from the live API on 22 September 2026, for evaluating TermMinder. The source licence is stated in each row. Want your own markets? Tell us which and we'll send a sample.

A jurisdiction is a council, region or national authority that publishes term dates. Northern Ireland's calendar is Crown copyright and is not yet in the licensable set. More councils are added as each calendar passes review, and these counts update when they are.

Questions

How is the holiday share calculated?

For each date, we count the jurisdictions with an exact, mandatory, general holiday or half term covering it. When every covered jurisdiction has schools in our directory, each is weighted by its school count; otherwise they are weighted equally. Windows, advisory dates and school-set days never count as confirmed. It is a conservative signal over the areas we cover, not a census of pupils.

What happens when a council changes its dates?

Every period carries the calendar version and review time it came from, so a change shows up as a new version you can compare against the old one.

Which licences are included?

Only sources we may reuse commercially: OGL v3, CC BY 4.0, CC0 and official facts, with attribution. Anything else is left out and counted in each API response. Read the API terms.

Can we try the API first?

Yes. Get a free key for UK evaluation, or ask us for a licence trial key for your markets.
